CONTRIBUTION OF SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES TO ACHIEVE SDG-02

Abstract

The specific sets of rules and Targets were introduced to lead a better world in 2015 by international community. The goals are sustainable involving economic, social, nutritional and environmental dimensions (UN 2015). The main target community of millennium development goals is developing nation.one of them is SDG-02 titled as “end hunger” or “zero hunger. It focuses on food security, healthy diet and sustainable agriculture. Agriculture production and food consumption is critical to any economy of developing countries. The extermination of hunger requires multiple factors to be focused on. The most important of them is sustainable agricultural practices (SAP). According to FAO sustainable agricultural production include practices that have economic, ecological and societal dimensions. These practices may increase production of food, water, soil preservation and carbon sequestration. Sustainable agricultural practices are perceived to be beneficial for farmers and environment. The practices reflect the modern methodologies which aim to protect ecosystem by adaptation to climate change and environmental variability. Hence the study concludes that SAP contribute to food security as well as availability of nutritious food which may play contributing factor to achieve zero hunger.
