Abstract

The prosperous worldwide Halal food industry needs a reliable traceability system to ensure continuous protection of customers instinctively consuming non-halal food against Islamic laws. Traceability allows industry stakeholders to track and trace vital information at all stages of production, reducing product recalls and non-compliance instances that negatively affect industry growth. Implementing a knowledge-based traceability process requires stakeholders to interact, mainly supply chain partners, so all stakeholders can easily access essential knowledge. It functions as a communication tool that makes information accessible across the supply chain, providing data on food and ingredients’ location along the manufacturing chain.  Good communication and management are critical to an impactful traceability system. Halal traceability can be established with the objective of enhancing production chain transparency via improved knowledge of manufacturing procedures, controls over and food safety. It may strengthen customer confidence in the halalness of food, which would also raise the substantial degree of food halalness due to adequate information flow throughout the chain.  Halal traceability enables industry stakeholders to recognize and monitor crucial data at each manufacturing step, reducing product recalls. However, the number of instances of compliance discovered by authorities will have a negative impact on the expansion of this sector. Implementing halal traceability may lower the cost of recalling the goods. Product recall management is a strategy that food manufacturers may use to ensure their goods’ halal status and safety. Controlling product recalls, particularly in halal certification, will enhance consumer trust in the halal industry's integrity, accelerating the global halal hub's growth. Tracing food components from manufacturer to end-users and supply producer helps reduce cross-contamination.
