DEMAND AND SUPPLY ANALYSIS OF TEACHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN PREPARATION OF TEACHERS FOR THE WORKPLACE

Abstract

To fill the gap between demand and supply of teachers in context of teaching and professional skills is dire need of the globe hence present study was aimed to explore teacher’s professional development status with reference to supply and demand if teaching and professional skills. Survey was conducted to collect data by using self-developed questionnaire. All the school educators working in the government high schools who got B.Ed-Honors degree from any teacher education institution as a regular student from 2014 to 2018 were the population. A sample of 400 out of which 200 male and 200 female teacher educators were participated in this study.  Findings showed that there was a significant difference between demand and supply of teachers in terms of teaching and professional skills. Teacher education institutions were found not effective in supply of skilled and professional teachers to the market. Assessment, classroom management, and pedagogical along with content knowledge skills, were to be considered essential and demanding. Long terms practice teaching was recommended in order to master these skills.
